Most of us in the world are looking for peace. Christmas and birthday (Christmas eve) cards I received from friends hope I find peace in 2011. What does that mean to us all? My guess: it means different things to many different people. For instance, we dream of: world peace, inner peace, peace of mind, being at peace with one another.
Merriam Webster’s Dictionary defines peace:
1a: a state of tranquillity or quiet: as a : freedom from civil disturbance b: a state of security or order within a community provided for by law or custom <a breach of the peace>
2: freedom from disquieting or oppressive thoughts or emotions
3: harmony in personal relations
4a : a state or period of mutual concord between governments b : a pact or agreement to end hostilities between those who have been at war or in a state of enmity
For me, I work for inner peace from the tragedy of my husband’s suicide back in May. I strive daily on my journey through the healing process. During New Year’s eve and New Year’s Day, many people struggle to start a new year without a loved one. We share a bond of understanding in that arena.
One thing I’ve come to understand is that our loved ones are with us no matter what, in spirit, looking out for us. No matter where or what time, I know they regret their actions which took them away from us and that they are forgiven. After all, they merely wanted to stop the pain; they did not want to hurt their loved ones and were not thinking of us at the time.
May you find hope in the new year that compels you to make the most of each day. It seems so straightforward but we have such a habit as humans of making things more complicated. Take a step back and savor where you are, how far you have progressed and what you have. My guess is that you’ll find peace in a way you never experienced before. My goal and wish for you: may 2011 be the best yet.
